Legacy Fund, the Hamilton County affiliate of Central Indiana Community Foundation, announced $134,400 in grants will be awarded to 19 organizations. Grants were approved by the Legacy Fund board of directors and include grants selected by the LINK Youth Advisory Council, a grant-making council for high school students.Legacy Fund awarded 14 competitive grants to organizations.
It’s been a year since I came on board as the president of Legacy Fund, your community foundation serving Hamilton County. In that time, I have deeply immersed myself in the community to better understand the needs and opportunities, as well as assessing our current initiatives in Hamilton County.I have spoken to mayors, superintendents, corporate CEOs and community leaders, and in partnership with CICF, implemented a neighborhood ambassador program to better understand the pulse of the community.
156 STUDENTS RECEIVED NEW OR RENEWABLE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR 2018-2019 Central Indiana Community Foundation (CICF) and its affiliates, The Indianapolis Foundation and Legacy Fund, serving Hamilton County, awarded 156 scholarships totaling over $1.2 million for the 2018-2019 academic year. Recipients received up to $40,000 and were chosen by multiple committees comprised of donors and community volunteers. A total of 39 scholarship funds created by donors at CICF and its affiliates made awards.
Tonight at its annual Celebration of Philanthropy event, Legacy Fund, the community foundation for Hamilton County, announced a new name and a new strategic vision. President Tom Kilian Jr. told a crowd of more than 400 that the organization will become Hamilton County Community Foundation. He also introduced a direction for the coming years that includes a focus on mental health, family and youth empowerment, and inclusive economic growth.
Legacy Fund, the community foundation serving Hamilton County, has selected three Hamilton County residents to receive the Legacy Fund Community Pillar Awards. This year’s award recipients are Freedom Kolb, special projects officer for Hamilton Southeastern Schools, Judge Steven R. Nation, Hamilton County Superior Court No. 1, and Brenda Myers, president and CEO of Hamilton County Tourism. Honorees will be recognized at the 10th annual Celebration of Philanthropy at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, at Ritz Charles in Carmel, and will each have the opportunity to award $5,000 grant to the not-for-profit of their choice. Legacy Fund is the Hamilton County affiliate of Central Indiana Community Foundation.
